the roots of the music
reggae centre for europesupplies the best weed for europe :-)

A sound system consist out of a set of (BIG) speakers, a set of hot reggae records, played by the "Selector", an M.C. who "talks" the records together and keeps the atmosphere positive (=I-rie !), a nice set of record players (can also be just one) Furthermore a very good amplifier, and a good , microphone, and a equalizer, this equipment is sometimes owned by the sound system themselves, or by the organizers. This is one of the most direct forms of music, by the people for the people. At some stage, the record gets turned over and the music repeats...only this time just the music, no lyrics, the M.C. grabs the microphone and starts singing.live and direct!

Sound system is usually playing until three or four o clock at night in Europe, while outside Europe, in Jamaica for example, playing till morning light is a common time to sign off. Sound system is more then just music, it is the place to let go of any mental or spiritual wrestling, to really experience the music and feel the vibes instead of just listening. Check for example the link to Brigadier Jerry, build up a good "Jamaican cigarette", lay back, and enjoy....culture in his finest form.

DO THE LYRICS OF A SONG MATTER ?

Trough the teachings of the bible, it is evident that words do have "power", by the Rastafarians often mentioned in one concept as "Word, Sound, and Power". Otherwise explained, if someone speaks friendly to you it is evident that it would bring forth the friendly person within yourself, unfortunately in modern society we do all experience the exact opposite just too often. Anger brings forth anger, yet "a soft answer turneth away wrath" as the bible defines it.

The power of Godly words spoken in sincerity are much more powerful then the swearing habits the society (Babylon!) has gotten many of us used to. Therefore it is my humble opinion that the word of a song DO matter, they do have a direct impact on the atmosphere (vibes). Beside the cultural reggae music as it is worldwide known, there is also the so called "slackness" which does emphasize the female body parts in their lyrics. This has little to do with the spiritual element in reggae music, but is a cheap copy of it. Neither can the above described purpose of a sound system be achieved with such music, but throws the people right back in the carnal frame of mind that many seek to get away from trough the music.

Many are called and few are chosen seems a very appropriate remark here, reggae is a powerful music, yet like all blessings of the Most High, they can be easily abused, reality proves it. Nevertheless conform the teaching of Emperor Haile Selassie, who taught us to have "confidence in good over evil", we will hold on to the King's music, One love, Jah guidance
